2010 Starts off with a Bang!

In only our first year as a foundation, it has grown from just Sejal and I to an army of volunteers and supporters who have acted quickly to establish the memory of our son as one that will benefit children for generations to come. It has both humbled and motivated us to continue working toward changing the future for the many children fighting Neuroblastoma.

2009 saw the huge success of Splash for a Cure and other fundraiser drives touching the lives of over 2,500 people and in turn raise over $85,000. These precious dollars are going towards vital research to help find less toxic ways to treat the children with this life threatening disease. Dr. Giselle Sholler has been a pivotal part of the foundation serving as part of our medical board and has devoted countless hours of effort perfecting treatments and hopefully soon find a cure for Neuroblastoma. It takes around $100,000 to get a phase one clinical trial started and it costs about $10,000 to get one child into a pilot study. You can read more about the research being done at http://ishangala.org/supportedResearch.

This year we know will be even more successful with multiple fundraisers already planned. Kicking of 2010 will be Rewrite the Lyrics, a benefit concert to take place on February 20th in Charlottesville featuring the musical talents of Tim be Told (myspace.com/timbetold.com). We hope you all come out to celebrate these children with music, drinks and fun. Tickets are now available online at an advanced sale rate with limited seating.  You can purchase tickets at http://www.Rewritethelyrics.com at the advance cost of $20 for general admission and $50 for a VIP package. Tickets will be sold at the door as well but will not be for the same price.

Tim Be Told are “very thrilled to be involved in this cause that deserves more attention in the media and amongst the medical community” states their management.  The band also reigns from Charlottesville and has recently released an EP From the Inside, which is now available on iTunes. Their sound is a mix of soul, pop, gospel, and rock, which creates unique instrumentation backed by the strong vocals of lead singer Tim Ouyang. Their music is laced with lyrics of redemption and hope. They are “proud to lend their talent for such an important event.”

It is imperative for Rewrite the Lyrics to draw attention to a disease that accounts for 15% of all pediatric cancer deaths, which equals one child dying every 16 hours. Proceeds from the event will go towards the research initiatives we fund as a foundation. You can find out more about the foundation and all we do for the children fighting Neuroblastoma at www.ishangala.org.

Since the establishment of the Ishan Gala Foundation, we have been very blessed by the many donors and supporters who have made it possible to help no parent ever hear the words “there is nothing more we can do for your child”. We can’t wait to help more of these children and their families in 2010 and have a rockin’ good time at Rewrite the Lyrics! See you there!

Thank you to Tim Be Told, Colin Healy, and the volunteers that made this event happen!
